The art of gifting is really the art of knowing someone.

To understand this better, we spend an afternoon with Tanvi SIngh Bhatia, in her world, as she reflects on the people she chooses to celebrate, the things she likes to give, and the small details that make a gesture meaningful. And how Bruijn finds itself naturally within that story, as part of her gifting vocabulary.

Tanvi spends much of her life bringing people together; through Ibtida, through the experiences she creates, and through the many artists, makers, collaborators and communities she encounters. She has spent years hosting, celebrating and gifting people from different walks of life. Here is how she looks at gifting for those near and dear, as well as for formal relations. 

So, how do you approach Diwali gifting?
For many of us, Diwali gifting can feel like a long list to get through. The way I go about is by drawing up a list with names compartmentalized into friends, family and business associates - that really helps me.

After years of doing it, does gifting become harder?
Once you make the initial effort to seek the brands that align the most with your outlook and personality, all you have to do is trust so in fact it becomes easier over the years!

Do you have a kind of gift that you return to?
A trusted go-to gift can save time without losing meaning, especially when it is something of genuine quality. This is where a well-made gourmet box can work beautifully.

Does you choose differently depending on the person?
A useful way to approach it is to start with the person rather than the product. When you know who you’re celebrating, the choice becomes easier.

What makes something feel genuinely thought after?
I love to handpick gifts personally to add that special touch. And of course, nothing speakes volumes more than handwritten notes. Love those!
